Write it down

Welcome to 2020 and welcome back to Misterjacque.com, I sincerely apologise for the break in transmission, had a few technical issues that have been resolved.

My compulsory one year national youth service, NYSC has been the experience, my usual birthday blogpost would say more about it.

So a few weeks back, I was forced to attend an Agric-business seminar at CDS, Of course, after plenty grumblings as that implied that we will mark that day’s attendance much later than we usually do.

They say no knowledge is lost na, so I switched to my what’s the worst that could happen mode, I finally walked into the hall and after a brief prayer to kickstart the talk, the first speaker, a dark skinned, handsome guy in a purple up and down was introduced to us by the anchor.

He started with two or three lines trying to paint the picture of agricultural sector in Nigeria, then like a mighty rushing wind, a few questions from his audience pushed him away from his subject. With each question asked he, I mean we, veered so far from the topic before us that a corps member stood up and asked for the history of Sango, the God of Thunder, which of course wasn’t close to what the organizer of the program had in mind.

He introduced a Second speaker, who he called his mentor, i’ll soon realise the reason he was addressed this way. I was forced to pay keen attention, as this man point by point made his case on the topic, “Challenges in Agriculture”, taking an occasional peep at his device while talking.

At some point, we realised the first speaker was to talk on Opportunities in Agriculture. The difference between the two presentations was clear, one wrote his thoughts down, the other didn’t. A flow of thought that ensured his session went according to plan.

Two things could have caused what player out during the first speaker’s session, either he had no written outline of how his session should go or he allowed questions too early. Later on I realised the later was as a result of the former.

A few things are as frustrating as not having the desired effect on your audience after your speech, or remembering something you could have said, minutes after the microphone has left your hand.

Asides public speaking, going into a new year, writing things down is a habit you’ll want to cultivate, it is the wisdom of God. God doesn’t have issues remembering what he said to bring it to pass or what he did in the past, I mean he can go back to when it happened if he ever has a need to. But we had men write down exhaustively his words, thoughts, plans and all.

Write it down, don’t think too highly of your brain’s ability to remember and to constantly recollect completely, be humble and let the pen and paper, or any medium of documentation assist you. #Writeitdown
