Loyalty

Staying true and faithful to our relationships regardless of convenience.

Life has its seasons, it was so from the beginning, a lot vary in intensity, size or shape, but I’ve realised that every man needs his God and a few loyal friends to be constant in the face of all these that change.

The renowned wisest king would say, “there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother”, allow me to interpret that to mean, “it is given to loyal friends to stick closer than even blood relations”.

One thing that has characterised this time and age is how transient things have become with us, things have become almost a thousand times faster with us, it’s shocking how impatient we can be when the Jollof rice that took mothers hours to cook isn’t ready in say 30 minutes, or say a letter that would have taken weeks to deliver now gets delivered and responded to almost immediately as a WhatsApp message.

Some things won’t change, kings have always had knights or their equivalent all over the world. It’s because in the travails that birth greatness, there is a constant need for loyal people to watch your blindsides. People who last, have a history of loyalty to people, and behind them a line up of loyal friends.

Just so you know, Jesus is in the category of people I refer to as having a line up of loyal friends behind him. On the cross, where he had become the epitome of shame and symbol of ridicule, forsaken by his beneficiaries, denied by the one who couldn’t stand watching him being seized; there John was, looking on, braving every circumstance to be there for his master, or as our context reveals, his friend.

“Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother.” Do you wonder why it just happens to be this same John the Christ would appear to and entrust with the revelation of how the show on earth ends?

It’s early in the year, choose to be that friend who stands with people in their darkest hours. Be the one who hears allegations about people and defend them even in their absence, determine to hear from them before passing judgement.

Be the one people want to talk to because they know, “Sogbeye will tell me the truth, but he won’t condemn me”.

There’s always a demand for loyal friends, the best way to find one is to be one

Hope this helps your friendships.
