Stay for the Harvest
Seedtime and harvest were among the institutions God established from the beginning. Man was not designed to toil without end. Depending on the seed, there was designed to be a season when something similar, but in greater volume, would come forth.
The farmer understands this, he plants the seed, but he doesn’t dig it up every morning to check whether it is growing. He waters it, tends it, protects it and waits. There is work to be done while there is nothing visible to show for it, this is where many of us struggle.
We are willing to work, but we want evidence quickly. We want our prayers answered, our businesses profitable, our children mature, our careers advancing and our efforts recognised—preferably on our timeline.
And when the harvest seems delayed, we are tempted to walk away, but patience is not passivity. Patience is remaining faithful while you wait, Persistence is continuing to plant, water and tend the field when the ground has not yet rewarded you.
A first-century tent maker, Scholar of Jewish law said in his letter to his prodigy, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest IF WE DO NOT GIVE UP.” (Emphasis mine). Not everything that takes time is failing, Some are simply growing beneath the surface.
So, keep planting, keep praying, Keep learning. Keep showing up. Keep doing the work.There may be very little to show for it today, but don’t confuse the absence of visible results with the absence of progress, and don’t abandon the field simply because you are tired of waiting.
It would be painful to discover that the season you walked away from was the season you had spent all those years preparing for.
